Winlink Seminar – Saturday, March 24 – Derby, VT

The following message comes to us from our friends at the Northeast Kingdom Amateur Radio Club (NEKARC).   The Orleans County Sheriff's Department is located at 5578 US Route 5, Derby, VT:

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

March 24th will be a busy day for the club. We will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Orleans County Sheriff's Dept. for a “seminar” on the use of WinLink, a worldwide radio messaging system. Winlink is used by Hams to send email messages worldwide using a ham radio, modem and computer with the PACTOR Digital Protocol. The messaging can be accomplished using peer-to-peer or through the use of the internet through download stations located worldwide. The seminar will be led by Richard Rodier, WH7YQ, one of our newer members and our resident WinLink expert. WinLink is used by mariners for email contacts and is also in use by EMCOMM groups for Emergency Messaging Communications through Ham Radio and other authorized frequencies. We will have a presentation on WinLink, work to set up a demonstration station, and experiment with the system and software. Phil suggested we buy pizza & drinks for lunch and finish up at 2:00 p.m.

At 3:00 p.m., we will be conducting a VE Testing Session. Anyone wishing to upgrade, get busy studying! Remember that the testing fee is $15 and you will need to bring a picture I.D. and a copy of your present license for us to send in with your test. If you know anyone wishing to test for the Technician license or who would like to upgrade, please urge them to come on March 24th.

Our next club meeting will be March 22nd. 6:00 p.m. at Orleans County Sheriff's Dept.

73,

Ziggy, N1ZIG
