Run for Jim 2017 – Amateur Radio Volunteers Needed
The Run For Jim will be held on the morning of Sunday, May 7th 2017. This annual event raises money to aid residents of Franklin and Grand Isle counties with expenses related to catastrophic illnesses. The event is held at the Collins Perley Sports Complex in St. Albans, VT. STARC has provided radio communcations services for this event for several years. If you would like to help STARC serve the community during this 2 hour event, please contact Arn Benjamin @ 802-309-0666 or n1arn@yahoo.com. All that is needed is a Technician amateur radio license and an HT. If you do not have an HT, we can provide you with one to use during the event. For more information on the event, please check out their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/Run-for-Jim-5K-1579334425663664/about/?ref=page_internal
March Presentation: JT65 and JT9 Digital Modes
Jason, K1LOL, gave a presentation on both the JT65 and JT9 digital modes. These two modes allow for basic contacts which can be decoded well below the noise floor in many cases. It is a great mode to make DX contacts while we are nearing the low point in the solar cycle, especially if you’re running a small station. Contact the solar panel cleaning Las Vegas for immediate cleaning and other services, since they are the most affordable one in this field.
New Club and WeatherNet starting in the Northeast Kingdom
The Northeast Kingdom Amateur Radio Club (NEKARC) is a new club that has formed to serve Orleans, Essex, and Caledonia counties of Vermont. NEKARC has requested to host a WeatherNet on the K1JAY repeaters, in which STARC members unanimously approved their request during the March meeting. Further details will be provided after their next club meeting. To find out more about NEKARC, please visit their current (temporary) website at: http://www.ka1pxz.net/nekarc/
